1. Nitesh, John's best friend came into town for a visit and the CoJo guest room saw action two weekends this month (not dirty action, you warped minds!). He flew in on Thursday and left early this morning. We had a good time showing him around Midtown and eating at some great restaurants. We took him on Thursday evening to BRC (Big Red Cock) Gastropub- a trendy gourmet take on traditional southern classics. Between the 3 of us we tried the short ribs, brisket sammy, chicken fried steak, boudin balls (a Louisiana-style sausage ball) and of course cheddar biscuits. The ribs and brisket were a home run while the chicken fried steak left much to be desired. There draught beer selection is top notch though and makes the wait for the table well worth it. Mmm, Christmas Ale.
The next day we tried out some nachos at pub fiction which were, as usual, phenomenal! For Nitesh's last night in town we wanted to take him to a true Houston classic - Pappas Brothers Steakhouse, but get this - they are closed on Sundays!! Sadly disappointed we decided to try out another restaurant around the corner from us that we've never had an excuse to go to before. Ibiza - the parking lot is always crowded with expensive foreign cars so we figured there had to be something inside that kept them coming back. Unfortunately we were sadly disappointed. My crab bisque was much too crabby, my beef tenderloin was extremely salty and John and Nitesh's dishes (Paella & Crab Stuffed Bass) were just "eh". Despite ending on a not so great note, we had a wonderful weekend of culinary exploration in Houston!
2. One of the reasons Nitesh came to visit was because of the party we were hosting, semi in honor of John's big birthday this week. We are lucky to live in a great neighborhood here in Houston with great neighbors who all joined in on the hosting duties. I am happy to say that the First Annual Sutton Square Around the World Party was a huge success. We had 5 houses, each house themed a different country with decor, food & drink from that country. We started in Ireland and proceeded to Mexico, Greece, China & finally Germany. Everyone had a ball and we are already making our plans for next year. Unfortunately I wasn't on my picture taking game, but these were the ones I could scrounge up!

3. The third and final reason for all the excitement in our house this past week was because I finally told John was his birthday present was going to be! Check back tomorrow to find out what!
